Areas of Expertise:
Post Surgery Recovery
Dr Matea has developed a post-surgery recovery program after working for the past several years with surgeons from a variety of specialties: dental, orthopedic, plastic and cosmetic. The program includes dietary guidelines, herbal medicines, nutritional supplements and IV therapy. The goal is to speed tissue healing, reduce inflammation, prevent infection and reduce scarring. Patients often are completely unaware of the effects of their diet on recovery. Avoid inflammatory foods and taking supportive nutrients has been dramatic in assisting patients recovery.
Dr. Matea has done well over 10,000 IV treatments herself. She has developed her own protocols after working with innovative doctors specializing in bicarbonate therapies and ozone therapy. She consults with other doctors to train them in IV therapy and is starting an online coaching program for doctors who want to offer holistic medicine and IV nutrients in their practice.
After working with many elite athletes and entertainers, Dr Matea has developed protocols to support their unique needs. Due to the intensity of their training and travel demands, their nutritional needs are much higher. Most doctors do not know how to dose their supplements properly, to match their intense needs. They also do not take the time to provide detailed dietary guidelines. Dr. Matea is also a chef and does food preparation for some clients and/or coaches clients private chefs.
After working with many diets since 1982, Dr Matea has found the alkaline diet to be the most effective. Many diets are based on theories, but if you test urine pH, it’s undeniable that the more acidic you are, the more pain you will be in. Urine pH reflects the tissue acidity levels. Therefore, if you alkalinize the body, you will experience less pain and better athletic performance. Every food and liquid you take in has an effect, either neutral, acidic or alkaline. Increasing the alkaline foods, (mostly vegetables) and minimizing acidic foods (fried food, sugar, carbonated beverages, coffee and alcohol) has a healing and rejuvenative effect on the body.
Dr. Matea is also one of the few doctors in the world with experience in the Simoncini protocol. An Italian oncologist who innovated using sodium bicarbonate IV therapy for cancer patients. Dr Matea was fortunate to have learned this protocol, then applied it to athletes. Once an athlete reaches lactate threshold, they are done, the muscles cannot push any further. Having a higher lactate threshold and faster recovery enhances athletic performance. Usually this is done through lactate training. However, this can also be achieved by following a more alkaline diet, giving alkaline salts orally and IV therapy.
There are a lot of misconceptions about pH balance in the body and very few doctors utilize this therapy. Dr Matea is innovating this concept with excellent results and teaches other doctors as well.
Dr. Matea has extensively studied the lymphatic system, taking a year off from naturopathic medical school to study the lymphatic massage using microcurrent and other electrotherapies. She developed her own technique called, Lumina Massage that utilizes aromatherapy, lymphatic massage, acupressure and Swedish massage. She found that other techniques like Vodder, are too gentle. Clients who tried Vodder technique often said they felt nothing. Using deeper massage, combined with acupressure and aromatherapy gives a more effective massage and can reduce swelling. Lymphatic massage combined with diet and herbs for the lymph system create a whole program that reduces inflammation, swelling and accelerates recovery from any kind of surgery.
Biologic medicine is a unique healing system which looks at the underlying causes of illness. It was founded in Germany in the 1950’s. Dr. Matea was fortunate to have studied with Dr. McWilliams, one of Dr. Rhienhold Voll’s students. One of the values of this approach to health is revealing the connection between dental problems and health, such as heavy metal toxicity, undiagnosed dental infections and incompatible dental materials. Dr. Voll found that 8 out of every 10 complaints in a primary care doctors office were dental in origin. This is profound. It definitely influenced the way Dr. Matea practices. She checks every person that comes in for dental problems. The teeth are so close to the brain, untreated dental problems can adversely effect the brain. Many people choose to remove their silver amalgam fillings, for cosmetic and health reasons. This can cause symptoms if the body is not properly prepared and supported during the process.
Dr. Matea has experience in guiding people through their dental work, reducing unwanted side effects and complications. “One of my passions is to help people avoid root canals. They are done so readily, often at the slightest sign of sensitivity or pain. This can often be treated with herbs, diet, essential oils and homeopathy. I call it my “save your teeth” protocol. A tooth problem is a system nutritional problem and should be treated by addressing the whole body, not just the mouth.”
Dr. Matea was fortunate to grow up and study with Doris Rapp, M.D., a pioneer in the field of allergy and environmental medicine. She paved the way for many doctors, especially women, to have the courage to explore natural therapies when it was not popular. Her book, Is This Your Child? became a NY Times best seller and resource for parents. Her work has brought awareness of the problems of chemicals in our food and environment affecting children’s behavior and mood. Thousands of parents have sought her help to find an alternative to Ritalin and other drugs prescribed for children.Dr. Rapp has appeared on Oprah, Donahue, Larry King Live and others. As a lifelong friend and mentor, Dr. Rapp instilled in Dr. Matea a love for medicine, ecology and natural healing therapies.
What is Environmental Medicine (EM)?
EM is the study of how chemicals and pollutants are effecting the health of the people on this planet. New and unusual illness are being discovered and medicine does not have all the answers on how to treat them. EM specialists are trained on how to recognize and treat illnesses that are related to the health effects of toxins. An example is, often people remodel their house and then when they move back in, they become ill and cannot live in the house. They become allergic or sensitive to every kind of smell or odor. They become unable to go places they used to go. Doctors often can’t find anything wrong and tell them it’s all in their head or psychological. This is extremely frustrating for people. There are diagnostic tests now that can evaluate toxins in the body. The treatment consists of treating any nutritional deficiencies or allergies, detoxifying the body, especially the liver, and teaching how to reduce further exposure (called environmental control).
